Working at Social High Rise was a great learning experience for me in my professional career. The office is located in the heart of downtown Chico, which is great if you’re attending Chico State. Free pizza from Celestinos was a nice perk as well. Taking time off was easy as long as you scheduled your work ahead of time. I got hired on as an intern right out of college while working a full time job elsewhere. I enjoyed interning for this company so much that I volunteered to write blogs, and also assist the CEO on side projects during my personal time. I even volunteered to come in on days I wasn’t originally scheduled for, causing me to work seven days a week between this internship and my full time job. My hard working efforts were noticed, and I was eventually promoted to full time when an account manager decided to part ways with the company.

Again, Social Hise Rise was a great learning experience in my professional career, however, it started spiraling down after I was brought on as a full time Account Manager. Not to mention, I ended up getting fired, but I’ll get to that later. I started noticing things that I didn’t realize as an intern. There were cliques and favoritism among the people who worked there. If you weren’t a part of the clique, you were an outcast. I didn’t know this was still highscool? There was one particular instance where the favoritism really showed. One of the favorites mistakenly ran a $50 ad as a $5,000 ad, which ran up to a week before anyone noticed, causing the company about 3k+. What happened to that employee? Nothing but a “don’t do it again” talk since she was a favorite. Let’s move on to me getting fired. First of all, I had the heaviest workload and the most clients out of everybody at the time. I was a hard worker and was constantly scheduled out. However, when I started my “Kick Off Call” training, which are mock calls to get you trained for the first call you have with your client, I wasn’t doing the mock calls well enough to their standards, and let me go. Even though I had completed 3 Kick Off Calls on my own with my clients, which is their requirement to become “fully trained". Why does this upset me so much? Because the Kick Off Calls are something you do maybe once every three months? Also because I was let go for not doing the "MOCK" Kick Off Calls to their standards....so it wasn’t even actual client calls that I got fired for. The Kick Off Call is important to get down, but was it really that BIG of a deal to get fired over? They let the favorite who wasted 3k+ on what was supposed to be a $50 Facebook Ad get a pep talk, but let me go because I couldn’t get a “mock” call done right? Do you see the favoritism now? I wasn’t fired for not doing my work, the company had lost 25% of their clients within a couple of months so financially, it was easier to cut me, and use my failed MOCK Kick Off Call trainings as an excuse to do so. Social High Rise loves to state that they’re all about transparency, but couldn’t even tell me the truth on why they partially wanted to let me go? To say I was hurt to be let go over something so trivial, despite all the hours and effort I put into the company, is an understatement. Isn’t it funny how companies expect their employees to give a two week notice if the employee decides to part ways with the company to ensure all tasks and duties the employee was responsible for finishes them out for the company, but a company can just drop an employee without asking if they're financially stable to be let go, or provide the employee with at least two weeks to ensure they have time to find another job?
