Pros

Pros: Diversity, mixed cultures and backgrounds. Good snacks.

Cons

Would not recommend joining Signifyd. This is truly a boys club with only ~15% of company employees being women. This is a testosterone driven environment with most of the men feeling they should be managers, leaders or VP’s. Not a single woman is at a director or VP level, only a handful even gets a senior title. They completely ignore the competent smart women they have.

We always appreciate candid feedback, and we agree that there are not currently enough women in leadership roles. However, we have not heard the sentiments expressed in this review echoed in our anonymous employee engagement surveys or regular employee interviews. Gender inequity is a tough issue that we, along with all venture-backed companies, are working hard to tackle, and we are committed to being at the forefront. I do want to note that there a couple of factual inaccuracies in this review that need to be addressed: 1) 28% of our employees identify as women, and 2) many women serve in our management teams and executive leadership, including myself as the Director of Human Resources.

Pros

Free lunches, benefits, ping pong

Cons

Layoffs are spun off as "restructuring." However the top performers also keep quitting. Leadership is extremely dishonest, and this goes unchecked even after it becomes a clear and indefensible pattern. Constant and severe growing and shrinking pains for hard-working people at lower levels of the org. Processes are constantly being created only to be scrapped a month later when management wants to spin bad results. "Unlimited PTO" means you likely can't use it. Long hours without recognition are the norm, while it seems like other teams take most Fridays off. Rampant favoritism. Extroverts who are outgoing are rewarded because the culture resembles that of a popularity contest; quiet but talented introverts will be unhappy and keep leaving the company. If you ever speak out or question any the inefficient processes or incompetent management decisions, you will likely immediately become unpopular and should watch your back. Dissent is very much frowned upon, which is a dangerous cultural trait for a start-up that's in trouble to have.

The decision to terminate employees, regardless of the reason, is agonizing. We expect there will be negative feelings after we let people go, but I'm extremely sad to hear that your experience at Signifyd was inconsistent with what we strive to provide for our people. It's certainly not compatible with the majority of the feedback we have received from employees past and present, both here on Glassdoor as well as through our other data gathering methods. We are fortunate to continue to see incredibly low regrettable attrition quarter over quarter, and in order to keep it that way our critical strategic HR initiatives for 2020 include improving communication from the top down as well as across our global offices, promoting community and belonging amongst our employees, and applying a customer-centric approach to our employees, including more frequent data collection on how they think we are doing and empowering all of our managers to act on that data. The truth is, we are a growing company in a new market that is still figuring things out. Change is the rule, not the exception, and our mindset is to embrace positive change rather than stick to the status quo just because it is more comfortable or will cause less upheaval. We do our best to minimize the impact of change on our employees, but we fully agree that we can do better. And we owe it to ourselves and you to do a better job of rigorously assessing candidates during the hiring process to ensure they have the agility and comfort with change and ambiguity that are required to be successful here. We hear anecdotally from our employees that they feel very comfortable dissenting or sharing challenging viewpoints that will help us do better, so we are surprised and disappointed to hear that your experience was otherwise. Regardless, we appreciate you taking the time to write a review and encourage you to reach out to hr@signifyd.com if you would like to give us more details to help us improve.

High Turnover and Uncertain Future

Pros

Some talented and good people, competitive start-up benefits, free meals and snacks.

Cons

Uncertain future as the company experiences continual growing pains under weak executive leadership in a challenging and highly competitive marketplace. There has been high turnover in teams such as engineering and finance which are normally stable in other companies. Why are people who are close to the product and close to the financial health of the company leaving? What do they know that we don’t? The sales teams seem to keep growing but they get the best perks and fat commissions so things look great for them. That might be the only team worth joining. Everyone else should think twice before signing on the dotted line because management and HR will not have your back. Scapegoating is a genuine problem to be wary of unless you have the right connections to protect you no matter what you do. Management are aware of the issues but have failed to take the actions that would have saved the company from spiraling downwards technologically and internally self destructing.

Thank you for your review. We are sincerely sorry to hear that you did not have a good experience here. We understand that it is difficult when someone is let go, and might create feelings of animosity despite what was otherwise a good experience, but we value your input regardless. In reality, we have had extremely low regrettable attrition, both at the senior leadership level and all the way down to individual contributors. Our engineering team in particular has always boasted incredibly high retention rates. If you would like to discuss your feedback in greater detail so we can improve, please email hr@signifyd.com.
