Pros
Most of the staff store level management and below are nice individuals actually interested in the field they are in, be it in firearms or in retail and customer service. They actually care about the customer and the experience. You get to shoot for free and receive some discounts on products and ammo (also see cons on this) If you are only part time and looking to pick up a shift here and there it isn't bad with a semi flexible schedule. Sort of (gunsmith schedule is terrible) Some PTO, PTO will also fall into the con's section as there are black out dates during the end of the year and unless you're willing to guess how much you will make and see if they will approve of you taking leave you haven't earned yet, you will usually lose anywhere from 1-3 days a year as full time employee just during the November and December blackout dates. Days to not roll over.
Cons
So Glass Door keeps saying that You can only address issues with C-Level Employees, Owners, and Chief titles. I have edited and revised countless times now addressing that the issues are the owners and Chief Operations Officer and Chief Operations Manager. The Chief Operations Manager/ owners sons name is listed on other reviews of the company here. I have a very long detailed list of cons that make the work place toxic but Glass Door doesn't seem to be very cooperative. So here is the quick summary. The owner COM will belittle and berate you. Discriminate against you if you are a veteran with PTSD and cannot manage a smile around him after his actions against you. He will send emails bragging of his own accolades to all employees and belittle any accomplishments that you have done. This includes in front of customers. The other owner/ COO, has lied to the employees to get them to submit record of their Covid vaccine with promises of money and then went back on his written word, a massive violation in ethics and honor and does hold legal consequence. This is verifiable by emails and company announcements. They willingly endanger employees by failing to provide them adequate safety equipment (working respirators) in order to save money. One respirator has been malfunctioning for over a year and the employees were forced to use it until it was finally determined that it actually was unsafe for use. They still refuse to replace the defective equipment as it will "cost money". You are expendable and they will let you know it every chance you get. You are a $10 hr employee and the second you make any more than that you are on their short list to be terminated should you do anything they disagree with. There is a written company hand book that states all the company policies but they will make up random policies on the spot that don't exist and expect you to adhere to them or face immediate termination. They neglect hazardous material and for a period of close to a year left lead contaminated material outside their store so that every time it rained, lead contaminated water would run into neighbors yards and the city storm water drainage system (This is verifiable with emails and photo evidence) It is a non commission based job but they want you to talk up and lie about the quality of their products in order to make the sale or face termination should you give an honest description of the product. They almost allowed steel to be shot on their range only if purchased through them. Steel is a cheaper made ammo that has a bit more rigid nature to lead and copper. It can cause damage to equipment and due the the sparks will be very likely to cause a flash fire. The owners said it would be ok since "there is a sprinkler system". Saying it is ok to start a fire because there is a sprinkler. (verifiable by email) If you take promised vacation days you are looked down upon, if you are unable to work extra it will be held against you. Many of your benefits are subject to owner whim, which means at any time they can just choose to cancel a class you were signed up for or do away with discounts. There are no benefits asides from PTO, discounts and classes unless you are full time and even then the benefits package is lack luster. Unless you have alternate sources of income; government assistances, spousal income with more money, social security, already retired and receiving pension, still live at home with your parents, you will not survive on this job alone. Training is OJT and hoping the person training you was taught correctly. The employee or store level manager will do their best no doubt but it doesn't mean what they were taught is correct either. The COM will annotate any little thing he "perceives" you do wrong, as ammunition for termination or reason to deny any type of pay raise or bonus to the employee or the manager, however, the COM will also get upset if any employee is recognized for their accomplishments in sales, repairs or other safety and revenue generating behavior they do. He doesn't want to hear it, just stick to the facts, but when it comes time to raises and promotions, he has "never heard about anything good they do". Verifiable by email and written paperwork
