    Marketing Interview

    Easy Interview

    Application

I applied through a staffing agency. The process took a week. I interviewed at Pentland Brands (London, England (UK)) in March-2014.

    Interview

My whole experience at the Pentland Group was disappointing. It was a very vague interview process. The marketing team member and the HR representative conducted the interview. I was told what their problems were currently and I was then asked to shoehorn my experience into the gaps that they faced. When asked to discuss my CV they focussed very much on my first job and not on my most recent and current experience. This meant that I was unable to give the answers I would have liked. When I did try to move it back to my recent experience it resulted in a very jumbled interview.

I do not believe the interviewers knew what they were looking for in a candidate and I felt like I had been waffled at for half the time rather than a conversation about how we can both benefit from bringing me on board. I was the first candidate they were interviewing for the role and I felt like it was a bit of a test drive for them. When I did get my feedback they talked about a different brand to the one I had applied for which again was disappointing.

I have since read reviews on this site about what it's like to work at the company and I feel that they resonate with my experience there. It seems a very old fashioned management style and a lot of people in their jobs because they please the right people rather than being good at their job. I was told that the role was P&C on a number of occasions and fear that the person currently doing the role is going to disappear from the company shortly for "unknown reasons".

It is a shame more people are not writing feedback on sites like this so candidates know more about the experience ahead of the interview.
