Pros

they try to support their managers as much as they can. Basic retail kpi’s. Good for someone new to management - they will guide and explain everything. extensive training for new sales associates. Regular conference calls and lots of communication between managers. Workaholics and people who love to work hard will work hard here.

Cons

As a manager they expect you to do everything from throwing out the trash to selling and tasking. Some days you will be by yourself for hours as the company cannot support or give hours for 2 people to be at the store at the same time. extremely low hours - even for high volume stores. As the manager you are doing the work of several people all day everyday. 9 hour shifts and 45 hour work weeks - took a month for me to get use to. Ive asked for a day off other than my 2 days a week and they said no as i do not have enough personal time banked with the company for an extra day off - even without pay. The vacation pay i earned cannot be used till after 1 yr. so... no time off other than sick days can be used for 1 yr.

Pros

Managers make a little above the national average. You can get a shoe coupon for being productive. You get to help many people in their search for shoes.

Cons

If you love redundancy and blindly following orders just to comply, while getting 3-8 hrs per week, look no further. People with great ideas for improving task efficiency are typically shot down favouring compliance, while the stores are not given enough hours to properly run and then scolded for not completing an unrealistic amount of redundant tasks. If you love companies that over work you and have little to no benefit to offer, Payless is for you! As a manager you are asked to have a large number of part timers, giving each of them 3-4 hours per week, so you constantly deal with turnover and retraining, but are not funded anything over your hours per week to constantly train these new staff. The result is a very frustrating, company to work for who are disconnected with their managers on an emotional level.

Pros

Good benefits (paid sick days, paid personnel days and good medicaire plan) and the way they treat employees (humaine resources)

Cons

Hours are long and you will work to earn every penny you make. If thinking of working for Payless get the big salary at the beginning because, no raises and always an excuse to not give you one. Don't think you will work your way up because it is not going to happen.
