      HFS is a sinking ship

      Pros

      When management is competent, the experience is great. There's tons of really cool teaching materials (bones, minerals, taxidermy, etc.) donated over the decades. There used to be a really lovely culture of inclusion, history, and community out there. Summer is brutally hot but can also be really fun.

      Cons

      Management plays favorites, violates safety codes, undermines staff, pits people against each other, and can't open a word document to save their lives. Fire and safety protocol are not clear and misunderstood by the person in charge.

      Pros

      I’ve had a genuinely positive experience working here. The work environment is healthy, supportive, and built on mutual respect. Management is approachable and transparent, and there’s a clear effort to ensure employees feel heard and valued. One of the best parts of working here is the people. My co-workers are not only talented and professional, but also genuinely happy to be here. There is a strong sense of teamwork – everyone is willing chip in, collaborate, share knowledge and step in to help when and where needed. It creates and atmosphere where you feel supported rather than stressed. Work-life balance is respected, expectations are clear, and performance is appreciated. Overall, this is a workplace where you can enjoy coming to work.

      As a non-profit, the wages are slightly below market.
