I worked at Novartis full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Flexible work arrangements, great salary, great benefits.

Many very smart people to work with, upping your game and teaching you much.

    Cons

You are a number, a cost, a resource. Know it and never forget it when making decisions and you'll be fine. Squeeze what you can out of them just as they do to you.

Lots of politiking from Management layer up through the organization. Decisions are taken first by how it affects the person making the decision (good for them or not), then if it's good for the company, and finally for patients. At the very highest levels of the organization and into the board, decisions are centred around the shareholder first. Again, know this, don't forget it and you'll be fine.

Loyalty, hard work, good decisions for the company and patients are not rewarded by the company. Supporting management decisions (good or bad), towing the party line (good or bad) and taking every opportunity to self-promote will result in great rewards.

If profits need to be increased to meet targets committed to shareholders the first place they look to cut are human resources (I was not let go).

High pay for soul crushing work in a dysfunctional (politics, back stabbing, bad mouthing) and warped environment (say that everything is for the patients but decisions are made for shareholders).

I have experienced this in multiple locations at Novartis.

    Advice to Management

None. Management's concern is to the shareholders and themselves first, the concerns of the people who make everything possible is a day to day annoyance that must be managed with placation. A change would only be made if it impacts profit, and ultimately the share price.

I worked at Novartis full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Novartis has a great R&D Team and a great Pipeline. Culture et truly patient focus and take into consideration impact on medical practice.

    Cons

Limited career opportunity. Despite the presence of programs, only a few chosen one are selected to continue. Highly dependant on who you are working for. VERY high turn over of management (ex-pat) makes for inconsistent leadership practice.

    Advice to Management

D&I is not just a gender thing... it should also take into consideration non traditional thinker. The company would benefit from listening to interverts as they may make better leaders on long run...
