Zero Job Security

Pros

Semi friendly team, some New Year chocolates, and worthless gifts.

Cons

There is no job security. Middle managers only accuse people. Absenteeism is rampant. It is impossible to progress in the company. No feedback is given to the employees from the managers and you only find out one morning that you have been fired from the company without any reason.

You'll wish you hadn't

Pros

Really nice espresso machine and snacks

Cons

Management is always contradicting themselves. What applies to a manager will not apply to an employee, expect S*&! to roll down hill 10x. Expect your hard work to be told it's not good enough or to be told you're one step from being fired for going above and beyond the job description. Project models will change from weekly, to daily, to hourly and nothing done/programed will be fast enough or good enough.

All employees, from management on down, are held to the same rules and standards. It's unfortunate that you didn't enjoy your time at Netgate, but wish you the very best.

Challenging but rewarding

Pros

The owners really seems to care about their employees. Most employees are friendly and good natured. No one minds helping anyone else when it comes to problems, even across departments. Good company culture with snacks, drinks and a great coffee machine. Fun parties sprinkled throughout the year and general positive outlook keeps morale relatively high.

Cons

The work can be tedious and fast paced. You'll be expected to wear many hats and come up with your own SOPs to document what you're doing. Management can sometimes be a bit micromanaging and often lacks tact when dealing with employees. Not a lot of growth opportunities within the company. Once you're in a position there's not a lot of other places to move, and very few supervisory or lead positions are available.
