Pros

Except for the fact that being employed with them gives you a pay cheque - there are no 'pros' unfortunately!

Cons

* No vision from upper management. They seem to be interested in simply keeping the boat afloat temporarily. * Extremely bloated upper management because you can get a sweet title if you buy enough share! * Unplanned and stressful workload due to poor management * Workforce in every department across all their locations is severely understaffed * Upper management runs operation like a sweat shop and treats ALL employees like they are all replaceable. Stressful and toxic environment * In some departments you are expected to put as many hours as required to get the job done but not claim any overtime * No structured pay scale (someone new with much less experience can come in making a lot more than experienced hard working internals) * No growth opportunity

Pros

Great location, close to public transportation and lots of restaurants nearby. Nice workstations in a modern looking building with great views. Co-workers are very friendly, collaborative and experienced. Some social events, flexible hours and paid overtime. Good tutoring and Continuing Education sessions. You can get experience in different type of projects and learn from other in-house disciplines like M&E and S.

Cons

All cons are on the upper management side, so keep your distance: • Always understaffed and overtime seems to be always the answer when extra help is needed. The four “executives” on the corner are more concerned about their profits, so proposals are more focused on dollars rather than on productivity, quality and understanding the complexity of a project. • All workplaces are political to some extent, but NORR Toronto is the winner. Hard to advance and the few promotions seems to be for the “good suckers” and not for the “good employees”. • Very old school design approach. Zero investment in new technologies and research, no laser-cutter and the only 3d printer available is just collecting dust. • Be aware, one mistake is all it takes to be bullied or laid-off. Some people will take it on you personally and make your life miserable.

Pros

The NORR Ottawa office has some amazingly talented and hard working people. Very dedicated staff. Some of the nicest people to call friends and colleagues.

Cons

The worst managed company I have ever experienced in my entire career. Management runs this office like a sweatshop and approaches the staff like they are all replaceable. Not the approach you want to take to maintain staff. Which they don't. Currently running an average of 12 person/year turnover. That's not normal for a 40+ person office. Every project is understaffed with management purposefully ignoring the staff's continued begging for help and resources.
