Employees are treated like absolute garbage

Pros

Unbeatable health insurance. I'm pretty sure no one you know has insurance that can even come close

Cons

I enjoyed working there a great deal, until I developed health issues. There was no cooperation with my need for a reasonable accommodation, despite that denying such an accommodation isn't all that legal. I was treated like the scum of the earth during a horrible health crisis, and lost my job and insurance 2 days before a major surgery. I can't imagine how a certain few of these folks sleep at night.

Pros

Great mission to train, test and certify osteopathic physicians. Salaries are at or above market rates. Health Benefit premiums almost free. Flex time is offered in some roles. The company is state of the art in technology.

Cons

There is effectively a caste system between management and other levels of employees. Senior management and Board of Directors lavish themselves with retreats and social outings while other workers are generally treated as just hired help. A new HR director is trying to address some of this inequity, with an employee of the month program and other initiatives, but so far the status quo largely remains. You will likely be required to do many more things than you can humanly handle, working long hours, regardless of written job role and responsibilities and any stated rules regarding overtime. You will not be paid or otherwise rewarded for overtime work. During blizzards with over a foot of snow, the offices have remained opened and employees required to report to work. There is no work from home allowance for most employees, even if you can effectively work from home in your role. There has been and continues to be a great deal of turn over of staff given the above. In some cases top performers have been let go or have left of their own accord, simply because of unmanaged politics, no sense of career advancement, and lack of work-life balance.

Pros

There are a lot of nice people who work at the NBOME. The benefits are decent - medical, dental, vision, short-term disability, retirement plan, vacation and sick time. The Chicago location is very close to the blue line train and the building has a free parking ramp.

Cons

Management generally shows little concern for whether employees feel satisfied with their work, and show little true care for employee well being. Employee suggestions receive no action from management. Employee turnover is very high. The salaries are quite low compared to other companies for similar work. The president is old-fashioned and doesn't allow things like casual Fridays (or casual day almost ever), no work from home or remote work is allowed. Rigid rules in general. In the Chicago location, there is a gym in the building but they are too cheap to pay for employees to have access. Very hard to advance in the company. I would not recommend working here except as a first-time job to use as a stepping stone to something better.
