Monmouth County Library Reviews

There is a horribly toxic clique culture at Monmouth County Library. I was actively targeted and harassed by a supervisor during my time there because they did not like me. There was a clear hierarchy in the library between those that the supervisor liked and weas friends with and those who were not. They got their friends to also target and harass me by "writing me up" for infractions tantamount to not knowing where a particular book was in the collection or not rushing a patron out the door fast enough. This was not an isolated experience. Those that the supervisor was not friends with received similar treatment, all members of minority communities who had worked there for 20-30 years would also be "written up" or pulled into an office for a lecture. Privately they expressed sympathy for how I was being treated and I was told that "this is just how they are and that I need to keep my head down until they find a new target". In my previous 5 years of working in libraries I had never experienced anything like this, especially from a profession that I thought was above petty, toxic, clique behavior. This is not a safe place to work and I am glad I left.

I wish there could have been more financial compensation.
