I have been working at Method Studios full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Formerly use to work on interesting projects.

    Cons

Terrible staff appreciation. No wrap celebrations.
Terrible Crew planning -- entire productions run in OT from start to end.
Very unclear direction -- notes from clients are misunderstood and guided incorrectly by supervisors.
Terrible reviewing of work -- shots sit in review queues all day, and notes given at 530pm to deliver that day.
Terrible producers -- lie to staff about deliveries and failure to manage creative direction or communicate expectations beyond a day.

    Advice to Management

Get department leadership down, by managing tasks and expectation more clearly. Clear leadership. Actually, just leadership would be awesome in Montreal. Having departmental supervision from another country is crazy!

A studio that runs on day-to-day goals, without long-term strategies, will only ever survive productions. The current management staff doesn't have the ability do anything but respond to issues, and there are a lot of issues that other studios don't struggle with.

I have been working at Method Studios full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Fantastic people: this company mostly has a great, collaborative culture with a very low tolerance for the toxic individuals who mess up certain other VFX houses.
    Produces great work.
Commitment to ongoing improvement at the management level.

    Cons

The pipeline is a work in progress, to say the least.
    Needs to choose one renderer.
Too long with Marvel as the main client is hard on the crew, because the way Marvel treats its vendors makes for intense crunch periods.
Too many different heads of studio in Vancouver over the last few years.

    Advice to Management

    Diversify client base.
    Spend money on the pipeline.
    Keep hiring good people.

    Pros

it was a good place to work.

    Cons

depends on the department, u may have a manager who ganna mess up the department.
do not take so serious of what the manager "promise” u, cuz they could change their mind in the last mins and tell u "I am sorry but things changed now"
u can not bump up ur wage contract to contract cuz u need to have an annual review. even u had it, u may still stay where u r or how much u get cuz" I m sorry but things changed"

    Competitive rate. Some great people.

    Cons

Lack of vision. Overbooked. Bad politics and horrible pipeline. Treat artists worse than anywhere I have been.
Lost some key people. And clients.
Turnover is insane across departments and management.
Lack of company culture, and accountability. People got away with murder.

    Advice to Management

    Loose the arrogant free loaders.

    Advice to Management

I worked at Method Studios full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

They had a pretty good culture in some ways. Lots of pub nights, lots of friendly decent people on staff and on contract. The local Head of Production was superb and cared a lot about making the place a decent place to work. She was constantly thwarted by the LA management who completely disregarded the staff.

    Cons

Insane OT on every show because of overbooked shows. Staff would roll over really late into the shows from the previous projects. Forcing everyone into a panic because they were always behind schedule. And instituting a hiring freeze in the middle of that madness?!?!
Local Supervisors were pretty good, but they were always using their LA supervisors who rarely even came to Vancouver and had no relationship with the artists in Vancouver. All the producers were mostly incompetent with a few exceptions. Good support staffing in Vancouver. . As I said earlier the new LA management was awful. Treated us like “Mexicans with Sweaters”. They are very cliquish and demeaning towards the local staff.

    Advice to Management

Curb your arrogance. I hear you have just lost your two biggest clients. Not surprised at all.
