Pros

On Assignment/Lab Support before Apex joined the fold was really a great company. As a former internal employee, there was a lot of teamwork between branches. Though profits and margins were always important there didn't seem to be such a laser-light focus on them at all times. We were expected to do our job, do it well, and ensure our company is making money. But we were taught to do these things in a professional way. We were taught to act as staffing consultants and really be students of staffing. The people I worked with in my office were great and our management (for the most part) was very helpful and willing to take the time to assist you.

Cons

Everything changed when we merged with Apex. Our management changed and suffered dramatically! People were promoted that had no rights to be managers. Our commission structures changed. The way we were measured as being successful completely changed. It's as if in the middle of a game someone came in and said we're playing by our rules now and if you don't like it then quit. Our back office and timecards and payroll and everything... changed. Apex came in and pushed sales as being frankly the only thing that's important. Instead of hiring "scientists" which Lab Support always talked about, they're hiring kids right out of college without science experience. We had to have a certain amount of resume submittals every week. They would rather have quantity and not quality. It's just really a shame because I truly loved this company. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone now!

Pros

Nice view, awesome downtown location, free parking, free Coffee, work cell phone provided, work computer provided, Free lunches and Happy Hours when boss comes into town.

Cons

Management was often dysfunctional. Yelling and arguing in front of subordinates. There were many times when management contradicted each other which caused confusion with internal employees and loss of business with clients. However, subordinates were expected to not participate in this same type of behavior. *Management got away with putting their hands on an employee and when reported to HR, it somehow was the employees fault. Management got to keep their job and the employee was terminated. Please note - HR will side with Management at this company. *The new hiring structure for Lab Support is to find new employees with no experience (pretty much new grads) and pay them a low base salary with a not so lucrative commission structure. This causes a revolving door at many of the offices. My advice to new employees: Advice to new employees: if you have no better option, work your year, get your experience and look elsewhere. There are tons of better companies out there that pay you what you deserve. *"Team Events" were often mandatory and if you could not make it for ANY reason then you were seen as not being a "team player" by management. These were often schedule outside typical work hours and even on the weekends. Participation was expected, but compensation of your extra time was not. The only good thing about these events were that they were often times paid for by the company so you wouldn't have to spend a penny of yours. *Peter Principle promoting = ineffective management. "Lead by example" is a mantra management pushes towards its employees but it's more of a "do as I say, not as I do" type leadership. Promoting a talented individual is great, but if they lack the social skills to effectively lead a team of new employees then what kind of positive outcome would come out of it? Management should be promoted on interpersonal skills and not previous numbers.

Contract Lab Technician for Cargill

Pros

The recruiters are very kind and eager to help. They quickly found me a job with Cargill. I have made really great friends and truly enjoy the people I work with. They have decent pay for a contract company and have better incentives in shorter time frames.

Cons

There are no sick days or vacation days. There are times when I have felt slightly forgotten about. I was told I would have a lunch bought for me and it never happened. I was told they would e-mail my information to an office in a different state, but that also hasn't happened. I feel overqualified and board with my current contract.
