Plenty of options if you want a variety of changes in your career
Cons
You will be treated like a number. There are slugs- and there are workers- if you are a genuine worker- they wear you out quickly

Pros
It was a very worthwhile, well paid career, with a high level of intrinsic rewards. Additional pros include: professional employment, well respected/excellent reputation, good benefits, excellent training, continuous learning, growth opportunities, leadership opportunities, teaching opportunities, collaborative teamwork. Each day was different, and I was in a position to make a difference.
Cons
Truthfully, I don't have complaints about the police department itself. But in any large, quasi-military organization, (approximately 9,000 sworn officers) there are equally large egos that can be challenging. I retired in 2017 because the commute was brutal. (My employment didn't end in 2018 as I indicated previously, but this form would not let me continue with my past work experience if I didn't mark it as 2018. It was not an attempt at deception.)

to many officers working inside non policing jobs. 10,000 cops less then half actually work the streets. To many in management doing nothing.

Toxic environment from upper management
Oct 24, 2022 - Delivery DriverRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Salary Serving the community helping those who cannot help themselves salary benefits
Cons
Never get hurt on the job, because if you do, management will treat you like trash. Management does what they want; however, working bees are under strict guidelines and are held accountable.. Management breaks the law and they get promoted. Management enjoys violating officer's rights and get promoted when they do. When hired and going through the police academy, they will all tell you that we are a "family". They leave out the Toxic family part. Because you are not family, you will only be a serial number.
