Wasn't the environment I was expecting

Pros

Salaried position Accessible by transit Not difficult to get the hang of the work

Cons

Weird atmosphere in the office. Didn't feel completely comfortable being myself while working. When having conversations with coworkers while working, it was made clear that having that level of fun came off as unprofessional. To be clear this was laughing during a conversation while still maintaining work was completed. Felt as though upper management had a very particular preferences for the office, so most employees kept to themselves. There wasn't a lot of talking between people because that would be too loud. The ad made it sound like a really fun place to work, with a new office complete with a 'zen room'. In reality it felt cold and the spacious room created a large gap between employees. Wasn't the kind of fun, start up job the ad made it out to be.

Pros

The employees overall are friendly and supportive.

Cons

Overall a poorly organized company with leadership issues. Two ends of the spectrum with their leadership, one entitled but smart, the other foolish but at least treats people well with respect.

High level of autonomy and ownership of your work

Pros

The environment is very much like a startup, so you won't have managers breathing down your neck - you need to take initiative and take ownership of your work. Management is very flexible and understanding as well.

Cons

As a startup, the work can be ambiguous at times but this lets you steer the direction of your own work. Also, because the company has staff all over the world, you may sometimes have early/late meetings depending on your location.
