Pros

Coworkers are friendly and easy to get along with. The director, who is the single boss of the office, is very understanding and willing to help when needed. Requesting time off for vacation or appointments/family matters is usually approved without any issues. Company culture is generally very relaxed and created a good overall experience before we were forced back into the office. The trade off of low pay for being fully remote was worth it.

Cons

Return to office was handled very poorly and has killed morale among employees. After being fully remote for five years, the company owner sent out a survey asking if we would like to continue working remotely. The results of the survey were ignored and we were brought back into the office. A handful of people were told they could continue working from home. This was a lie. The owner initially said we would be working on a hybrid schedule (3 days in, 2 days out). This was a lie. New employees were hired shortly before the return to office mandate was issued, and were told the position would be fully remote after a month of in office training. This was a lie. The owner obviously intended to have all employees return to the office full time, but decided to lie about it in an attempt to curb any backlash. The entire situation was handled with a complete lack of respect towards the employees. This lack of respect is not an isolated incident, and has been illustrated by the owner numerous times outside of this specific example. Only apply here if you are very desperate, and even then, immediately start looking for another job if you are hired, as many of the skills learned on this job are only applicable to the company’s custom low code platform, and not directly relevant to any other employers.

Pros

The work from home policy was great as it made work life balance fantastic, until we were forced to return to office. Small company of 20 employees, you know and work with almost everyone as you can jump from project to project. Learn good soft skills. Work can be fulfilling and client interaction is good. Still lenient on appointments for wfh. Great coworkers.

Cons

We had an anonymous vote on how we will operate going forward. This turns out to be pointless and completely ignored. Most employees voted to stay WFH, however, we were told last minute we are going to be hybrid, mandatory. As soon as we started, at the end of the day we were given a last second slack requirement to be full time office, and a important project was promoted as the reason and ended up being a scapegoat. The deceitful nature of this transition has left a very sour taste now. Very small raises probably because of renewing the lease of the office space. Due to commuting costs, personal time loss, gas money, eating out costs, tolls, and inflation this might as well be reduction. Morale for being forced into office is decreasing. Stagnant growth opportunities.
