Pros

Colleagues and other consultants tend to be much higher skilled than the average. For consultants, rates are typically higher than other headhunters in exchange for more challenging contracts.

Cons

Once at a client, there's little Quadrus does to justify their high premiums after the initial welcome. No different than any other headhunter. Clients - For the rate, you'll likely get your money's worth for and get higher quality individual developers. Other than that, Quadrus as a company provides little value other than being available to offer generic advice. It is far more cost effective for both sides to directly hire the contractor/employee, rather than to pay the high overhead. Consultants - While you'll hear lots of internal praise at Quadrus and their vast experience, at the end of the day it is just you and your colleagues. It may be better find your own client rather than forgo the thousands $/month commissions Quadrus collects as a glorified head hunger. If you have even basic negotiation skills, It's much easier going it alone and avoid the extra overhead of reporting to a middle man. Employees - Mandatory 8.5 hour days without compensation.

Pros

Good work culture and work benefits. But, the work is very boring.

Cons

The work is very mundane. Most teams are building database drivers. The pay is not competitive compared to other firms in Canada.

Hello and thank you for sharing your experience on working with us for over 3 years! We are honored by your offering us the chance to provide a positive experience of work and greatly appreciate all your insights and feedback. As you pointed out, while some teams build complex database drivers for clients, others work on (and have won recognition for) challenging Apache open-source projects, database engine internals, or developing complicated ETL/ELT solutions across very different storage mediums (NoSQL, SQL, Graph, Data Warehouse, Data Lake, etc.) using disparate languages and environments, to name a few! Your growth plan and weekly 1:1 checkins should have included opportunities to create a path to achieving your personal, skill and leadership goals so you can help develop a future where you continue to enjoy your work with us. It sounds like that's not the case so kindly reach out to anybody on the People team and we'll make sure to straighten things out. Furthermore, your advice to management is that we should stop micromanaging. We agree that micromanagement is not conducive to a good workplace. We’ll raise this with our senior leadership and management teams and try to have a more honest conversation about where and when this occurs. Thanks for noting our good work culture - we believe transparency and iterating forward with employee feedback is absolutely key to keeping everybody connected and involved. We also appreciate that you have many employment options to choose from and rather than compete to provide the highest salary to buy all the talent, we try to take a holistic approach to providing a positive work experience beyond just a pay cheque (life's too short, right?). That said, we regularly review our salary bands with the local HR special interest groups, with candidates we interview, and with 3rd party surveys, to make sure we're competitive. We're glad you enjoyed the employee-driven benefits (WFH benefit, Wellness benefit, company sponsored lunches, social events, etc.) we offer beyond a salary and bonus. Thanks again for your insights and perspectives, we are listening and taking action!

If Improving's culture matches that of YoppWorks, then run a mile!!!!

Pros

YoppWorks had some very smart Engineering people.

Cons

YoppWorks had a very toxic culture. They liked to play up the 'every voice counts' angle when, in fact, the CEO had a 'my way or highway approach'. Some very inappropriate remarks (political and borderline plain racist) made in meetings and back-stabbing that caused discomfort to some really good people, who then left... So when they got bought by Improving and there was all the stuff about cultures aligning, I had to laugh.
