Great team, interesting projects, hit and miss management
Pros
Friendly colleagues, great admin team, above average processes, challenging projects, lots of opportunity for on the job learning. Company has a can do attitude and is not afraid to tackle engineering challenges. Opportunity to work with a few very capable engineers, and brilliant problem solvers. New senior hires in the past 1-2 years have also dramatically improved the outlook of IDE, brought on new ideas through leadership and professional people management and improved the employee retention in multiple business units.
Cons
Some seniors bring the team down with embarrassing people management approaches, a general unprofessional attitude with their day to day actions and surprisingly unstable emotions. Colleagues experience rudeness and lack of respect often leading to reduced morale and lack of desire to contribute. This is abuse, serious in all other companies and goes unpunished at IDE. For quite a few employees it's normal to experience one or two outbursts or disrespectful conversations a day. Some project managers are under skilled and simply act as project "admins". They plan out projects poorly from the start and when issues arise the project manager is only capable of asking the team when something will be finished or throw around another general statement such as 'take more ownership' without detailing anything out and call it a day. Poor management creates unnecessary stress which has been a contributing factor to the high turnover of this company. Reviewers often or do not attempt to understand the context prior to giving feedback, or give feedback that does not add any value or encourage learning and improvement. This causes many time delays and frustrates both the project managers and staff. The root cause of the lack of successful projects is often misidentified and blamed on on either the the team or in the difficulty of the challenge.
