Pros

Only pro would be they hire other cool people, but those people leave the company in no time once they realize what Hive is all about... I have seen so many great people leave throughout the course of the year.

Cons

Extremely disappointed with Hive Learning as a company. -leadership plays favorites -it's the exact opposite of an inclusive or psychologically safe environment (especially if you're on the sales team) which is ironic considering it's a company based around leadership development and DEI. -the lies they feed you during your interview process (they won't be sending you to London, there is no onboarding process or proper training involved, the company has no idea what they are doing and that turns into stress on your shoulders) -the company panics because there is no need for their product in the US market and the board of directors is getting upset -leadership gives positive feedback and acts like they have your back (THEY DON'T)... they fire people without valid reason all the time after continuously telling you "you are safe" & "you have nothing to worry about" -leadership is not flexible even though they think they are... it may be a start-up but they have an old curmudgeon corporate vibe and don't like to budge on certain things -if you have great ideas - bring them elsewhere so you will be recognized for your worth

Pros

Great welcoming culture, awesome pto, work from home option. Most of the people in the company are REALLY great. Fair compensation for most roles. Lots of team building activities and meetings with other people in the company. Family feel. Company overall is fantastic, it just depends on who your manager is. I would’ve liked an opportunity to prove my worth to the company. I have nothing negative to say about the company itself. It is wonderful and I hope it continues to be successful. Great mission and culture. It can be a great company to grow with.

Cons

You feel like family until you’re not. Despite receiving positive performance reviews, you can be fired without notice and without real reason (multiple people same day) and sudden termination is not done very kindly. Management plays favorites and despite being a company who strives for diversity and inclusion, it does not feel very “inclusive” on some teams. Can be a great place to work for new grads or people in their young twenties starting out their careers.

Strange culture

Pros

Some great people that work really hard. Typical tech environment with beer fridge, bean bags, shared office space etc.

Cons

The culture lets them down. There is no room for opposing opinions to senior management and what is said publicly is not reflected internally; they do not take their own advice. There is a blame culture and an unspoken expectancy to work 24/7 and to senior management times e.g. post 9pm or pre 7am. Very hierarchical and secretive for such a small company.

Thank you to everyone for their reviews. I'm the current CEO only since start of 2020. I worked in the organisation when this review was written and I can see how you felt and observed some of these culture traits myself. I wish you were with us now as I'd hope it would feel very very different... yes the work can be hard (hard problems to solve), and we definitely haven't aced diversity and inclusion to the extent we try to teach it, but we're so much further on that journey now. On working hours I haven't seen that too much in the past bar when there's been an occasional major project deadline when I think people are largely Ok to go harder for a few days then take the time back... I'm so sorry you felt that way and worked so much! I've massively championed balance and flexibility as I genuinely believe balance gets the most out of people - happy people do their best work. I think we're more like a 9-5 culture than you describe, maybe a bit outside that if people choose to flex to do school runs or go to the gym : ) but there's absolutely no expectation from me or any managers now to work outside that, I even put that on my email signature as I sometimes need to work in the evening as I have a young family and need to flex a bit in the day. I also hope the hierarchy point feels very different now too with a whole new leadership team pretty much... thanks again for sharing and wherever you are now I hope it's great!
