I have been working at Hertz full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Discount Program
Working with great front line staff daily
Building professional business relationships with body shops, dealerships etc.

    Cons

Poor wages, corrupt management, high theft from employees, vice president who is clueless, CEO who doesn't make the effort to look into Canadian Operations. No advertising, poor signage at locations, poor customer service, high mileage cars, renting cars without doing maintenance which could be potentially dangerous to customers. Expect you to run the location by yourself on numerous occasions, not enough staff, not enough cars, customers waiting for cars, verbal abuse from customers, managers not doing their jobs, managers in roles who shouldn't even be in car rental. No training and development. Lastly NO COMMUNICATION. I'm surprised Hertz Canada is still in business with how much money they have lost.

    Advice to Management

Fire the upper management at Hertz, all the way down to your branch management, no respect from senior management, throw you under the bus for any single mistake you make. Start treating people with respect, and offer correct training, development and competitive wages.

    Cons

    Management was a little unstable

I worked at Hertz full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good vacation policy even for new employees. Apart from this there is nothing that I can give credit for to this organization.

    Cons

Unethical accounting policies designed to reduce bonus payouts. Expectations are you should wear a suit everyday at work when more than half of your day is gone in cleaning cars, picking and dropping customers. Current managers are high school graduates but new employees should have a university degree (and what are you doing with that degree? cleaning cars, sweeping floors, shovelling snow in winter around your branch, cleaning branch washrooms). If you are in back office you overtime policy and hourly pay is way below competition. So think twice before you commit to this workplace.

    Advice to Management

Start investing in your people, and just FYI when you say North American operations that includes Canada and USA in case you forgot about it. The policy of being transparent to customers also applies to being transparent to employees. Wages/Salaries are already lower than major competitors, if you try to add unexplained expenses to monthly P&L statements (for which even managers have no explanation) it is unethical. If an employee demands to know what expenses are that are getting deducted from branch profits they deserve and explanation. How come it is that only lower level employees are being penalized where as Estereo gets good raises every year? The state of current operations in Canada is pathetic having worked in two different provinces. People unfit and unethical are being trusted and retained with promotions. Start building a positive culture and show employees that you care. Take a pause and ask yourself that question why do we have a 75% staff turnover rate?? The employees you have retained know very well how to tweak your existing policies for personal gains. Listening to customers to excellent way of improving business performance but listening and caring for employees is equally important. The CEO, CFO, CIO, CRO/COO, directors are not serving your customers everyday, it is the lower level employees who are dealing with customers day in and out. Regardless of how many luxury vehicles you buy or invest in latest technology if your basics are not straight there is no growth. The business is surviving on scavenging leftovers from ERAC/Discount and others.
