Pros
I took a job at Workiva, formerly WebFilings, with little to no background on the company. It was definitely a risk worth taking. From the moment I started, I felt engaged in and valued by my team. My manager and my coworkers wanted me to succeed in my role and they were and still are eager to help me as I encounter new challenges and we work together for the benefit of the team. The executives at this company value people over process. A good workplace culture is important to me and is one of the main reasons I took the job. The Executives understand the importance of a good work-life balance and they work to accommodate employees at every turn. Each employee gets a laptop so work can be done at the office or from home. This has proven to be incredibly helpful to me on numerous occasions so far. The offices are set up to encourage conversation and community. Every idea is accepted and talked about. Employees are encouraged to share their ideas. There are great perks to coming into the office like healthy snacks and company lunch. Health and exercise are important to me, so I take advantage of the onsite gym at the Ames location to make sure I get my workout in. All in all, what's most important to me is that I genuinely enjoy coming to work every day (or logging in from home). Having worked for a few other companies in my career, Workiva is really a diamond in the rough. It has provided a great culture, a great work-life balance, and an incredible opportunity for growth.
Cons
The company is growing fast. This means that change and growth are constantly an option. If you aren't prepared for that, it may seem a little daunting at times. However every decision made is data-driven, which means that it's been thought about long and hard and all possibilities have been considered, so I've greeted change as an opportunity rather than a set-back and I've really enjoyed my experience.
