Pros

There aren't any to list.

Cons

The Owner lacks all leadership skills, is a reactive boss rather than a proactive leader. His knowledge in the industry is completely lacking, and hasn't kept up with the evolving nature of the industry. Regularly would give employees payroll checks that bounced, used company funds for personal gains and embezzlement. Every client who was capable of contacting him directly would cause him to treat everything as if it was an emergency, calling and texting his employees all hours of the night, then not even considering to compensate them for obliging him. His salary employees he would abuse their willingness to keep clients happy. The company has no benefits, no insurance, and he pays 20-50% below the local and national average. The 90 day "Probationary Pay" turns into your indefinite pay scale unless you bring it to his attention, however, even if you do bring your pay to his attention at that time he will lie and claim he never promised any pay change. It is in your best interest to record every conversation you have with the owner as otherwise you will likely have no evidence of his deceitfulness.

Thank you for sharing your perspective from your time at WebWorks89 in 2018. We are sorry to hear that your experience was so negative and that you left with such serious concerns about leadership, compensation, and ethics. Out of respect for the privacy of current and former employees and clients, and because some of the statements you’ve made involve serious legal and ethical allegations, we will not address specific situations or individuals in a public forum. We do, however, take concerns about payroll reliability, separation of personal and business finances, fair compensation, and after-hours expectations very seriously. Since the period you’re referencing, we have worked to strengthen our internal controls and processes, including tightening accounting practices, standardizing how compensation and any changes are documented in writing, clarifying expectations for after-hours communication and workload, and improving how roles and responsibilities are defined and communicated to team members. We recognize that small businesses can face real financial and operational challenges, but that does not lessen the need for transparency, professionalism, and consistency. We understand that your experience did not reflect the kind of workplace you or we would want. We appreciate the time you invested while you were here and remain committed to continuing to improve how we operate and how we support the people who choose to work with us.

Pros

None, the boss talks a good game beforehand and makes it seem like you’ll be doing digital marketing when in reality you’ll just be an assistant.

Cons

I was hired as the digital media manager and only lasted two days. He never intimated in the job description, over the phone, or in the in person interview that I would be an assistant but the first day I worked there he old me he thought of me more as “his executive assistant with some marketing aspects”. I had to get his coffee, walk his dog (4 times in one day), and proof read his sons college essay “because I was an English major”. He told me the first day that I would have some bill collectors calling (yikes) and had me call his clients to collect their payments. He also spent a lot of time telling me some very personal family stuff. He also gave me dating advice within the first 3 hours of me being there and told me he “hoped I could add a woman’s touch to the office”. (Double yikes) Since I was a contract employee I sent him a bill for my two days worth of work after I quit and he STILL hasn’t paid me (it’s been almost a month). I don’t want anyone to make the same mistake I did of taking a job here.

Thank you for sharing your experience from your brief time contracting with WebWorks89 in 2019. We are genuinely sorry to hear that the role and environment did not match your expectations or the way the position was described to you. Out of respect for the privacy of everyone involved, we do not address specific personnel or payment matters in a public forum. What we can say is that we take concerns about role clarity, professional boundaries, and timely payment very seriously. Our intent is that every position be accurately represented in the job description and interview process, and that work assignments align with the role that was offered and accepted. Your comments about being asked to perform personal tasks and about certain remarks made in the workplace are concerning. In the years since, we have focused on tightening our hiring process, clarifying responsibilities, and reinforcing expectations for a respectful, professional office environment for all employees and contractors. We appreciate you taking the time to provide feedback and will continue working to ensure that anyone considering a role with WebWorks89 has a clear understanding of the job, the culture, and the standards of professionalism we expect.
