Pros

As an assistant store manager the pay is competitive; there are over 8,000 stores across the all 50 states and Puerto Rico so there will always be a Walgreens to transfer to should you move.

Cons

The company is consistently only focused on the all mighty dollar, and while I understand that the point of running a business is to make money I also feel that the company needs to take care of their employees as well. I have been with Walgreens for 15 years and they have been in a steady decline in taking care of their people. They have been freezing wages of long-term employees, have taken away holiday bonuses, and have moved Assistant Store Managers to an hourly wage which will ultimately reduce the amount of money they will bring home and also removes the yearly bonus from them. And it is not just about monetary compensation. The company used to match profit sharing retirement at 3:1, then 2:1, now its going to be about 1:2. The health benefits continue to cost more for less which, again, I somewhat understand is happening across the country but as a "Leader in global, pharmacy-lead healthcare" I think Walgreens could broker better health insurance deals for their 10's of thousands of employees. Lastly, the personal touches that each store manager or assistant store manager could put into their store is gone. Corporate has a mandatory plan for each section of the store, each bonus display location is planned out for you and sold to the highest bidder yet the stores see none of this money and continue to get their hours cut to the point of deciding to have a body in each department for both day and night shifts OR having an "extra" body on the sales floor at night to help with the mad rush of people but then you need to decide who to cut from the day shift.

Pros

The management is accommodating and doesn't ask of to much.

Cons

At one point the heat was out during the winter, but i'll say that this was only for about a week.

Pros

Can be a fun environment. All in whom your staff is. Operating photo was fun and building projects for the customers. Learning about pharmacy operations.

Cons

Work life balance and low pay for what is expected. Not having enough payroll to effectively run a store. My store ran FE on a 320 hour a week budget. That was barely enough to get buy and meet the expectations put out by the company. I was never able to keep a full leadership staff. When a leader called out, I had to stay. There were days I was called away from my own dinner table. SM's were forced to be in the pharmacy for more than half of their day regardless as to what is happening in the FE. I worked over 50 hours a week and barely got to spend time with my family. If I wasn't at the store I was getting a phone call and having to go back to the store.
