Pros
People are nice Family friendly place- if you have to leave a little early for your kid's soccer match, people don't even think twice about it. Workload is super manageable. Pull an all-nighter to meet a deadline? Nah, just push the deadline out.
Cons
Career Paths? Nope. Individual Contributor and Management tracks are completely separate (think military: enlisted and officer). If you are a skilled professional who may want to eventually lead a team, then you will have to go backwards and supervise operational task teams (think call center, Ops support) first. 5% cap on raise for promotions on individual contributor track. Your initial salary will be the primary factor for pay not the work you do. Negotiate as much as you can up front. Some individuals who were able to get promoted are paid below the internal posted hiring salary ranges for the work they currently do, even after a few years in the position. If you have intentions of coming into the company and working harder than your peers to get promoted/earn more, look elsewhere because you won't be compensated for it. If you are comfortable where you are at in your career and looking to take it easy until retirement, then this is the place. Promotions are budget and turnover based. An individual cannot earn a promotion. The department you work in either has to add to staff or have turnover from individuals at a higher level for you to be promoted.
