Pros

Very old tech stacks (plural), so: mature and refined, including DevOps stuff. Teammates were good. Smart and skilled, and friendly and nice to work with.

Cons

Very old tech stacks (plural), so: a little decrepit, with some legacy code, and dark corners and knowledge blind spots as most long-time engineers are no longer with the company. Two companies sort of merged not too long ago, so that meant two different codebases needing to integrate and work together. That was very challenging, but we mostly were getting it to work.

Pros

New leadership team that cares about people and creating a positive winning environment There is an opportunity to learn new things including AI to contribute to positive impact. Human insight will be increasingly more important as we move to an AI influenced world.

Cons

There are small pockets of people who have unrealistic expectations about who should fix problems or issues. We all own our culture and it is not going to be “like it used to be.” There is a lot of change in SaaS companies as a whole. We are not immune. I am hopeful because we have smart leaders who care about the people, not just the company or their own interests.
