Pros

Very little buearocracy or red tape Some of the clients were very nice Some coworkers were really amazing and helpful IT was sometimes open to feedback and suggestions Pay was slightly higher than industry average

Cons

Little to no benefits (and if they did have them they were a joke) - the paid parental leave advertised is only 2 weeks for birth giving parents. Medical/dental/vision are about average coverage but pretty expensive, no match on 401K, they advertise unlimited PTO but you will for sure face ramifications if you take more than 14 days a year. They have a tendency to micromanage but they have to since sales is completely clueless as to what goes into clients books/needs so clients are constantly sold on things that are not even close to reasonable. Blame game from/between upper management was rampant. If a client asked about their tax status, tax would reach out to the client and blame accounting for not getting financials to them without even consulting with accounting to see if anything was needed from the client. Tax and accounting operated almost like they were in competition and working together was absolutely unheard of. Actually, most departments there operated independently of the others needs to simply turn around and point the finger at each other. Some clients were nightmares and it's the employees problem if they were signed for the wrong services or clients were completely unresponsive. Upper management is notorious for blatant retaliation, don't ever go to HR. Upper management is completely overwhelmed and HR just tells employees to handle issues themselves which isn't surprising since HR is directly related to the CEO who seemed to have zero clue how to actually handle employees issues. The management was extremely unprofessional, even suggesting completing work/making judgement calls based on clients' race, putting items to the wrong categories intentionally to get a reaction from clients, etc. There's a reason employee turnover is so high there. It's a nightmare. Constant policy changes not in writing or announced anywhere but you're expected to know somehow. There is little to no training for new employees. In over a year there, I witnessed 2 official trainings. Employees requested more but none were done. I get it's a start up but if you're told by your manager to figure it out and you research it and do your best, you're met with "this is still wrong, you're a terrible employee". There is no teamwork, collaboration, or friendliness beyond surface level. It's all very superficial, catty, and back-stabby. You will get the butt chewing of a lifetime if you reach out to coworkers or other departments but also get in trouble for bugging your manager with questions or requests. The technology there is somewhat innovative but only about as much as the robotic dogs or furbies were in the 90s (cool to look at but almost completely useless otherwise).

Uplinq is a great place to work. We’re remote-first, offer competitive pay, paid time off, and a relaxed, flexible culture. The team is focused and driven, with a strong “get your work done” mindset, but it’s also a fun and supportive environment with a great sense of community. People are trusted to work independently, stay focused, and contribute meaningfully while still enjoying the people they work with.

Pros

I started as a tax intern and was able to grow into a full-time position, which speaks to the growth opportunities within the company. The role is fully remote, compensation is reasonable, and there are great learning opportunities. The tax work includes a good mix of unique and complex returns, along with more straightforward ones, which makes it a strong environment for building experience. The tax department also has an amazing VP, manager, and team who are supportive, knowledgeable, and great to work with. There is also flexibility with hours, so taking care of things like a doctor’s appointment or getting my car serviced was never an issue as long as the work got done.

Cons

The only real downside is that there is currently no IRA or retirement plan offered but that will likely change in the future.
