Pros

PTO and benefits are good, not much else to compliment

Cons

Since the new CIO has joined Unum, the information technology workers have systematically been laid off and replaced by H1B workers from India. There are likely more H1B and offshore workers in information technology than there are citizen workers. There is essentially NO career potential for an American citizen IT worker. While Unum is dedicated to diversity and inclusion, there is a noticeable lack of diversity in hiring of the highest levels of IT management. The CIO, being from India, has predominantly filled most Sr level management positions with friends from former employers. It would appear there is a prejudice against American citizen IT workers.

Pros

Strong work-life balance, supportive leadership, and a collaborative culture that feels more people-focused than many large corporations. Hybrid flexibility, solid benefits, and long-term stability make it a great place to build a career. There are also good opportunities for internal growth and cross-functional experience.

Cons

Decision-making can sometimes move slowly due to layers of process and approvals. Compensation may not always be as competitive as larger tech-focused companies, and organizational changes or transformation initiatives can occasionally create ambiguity or shifting priorities. Like many large enterprises, bureaucracy can at times impact speed and innovation.
