Pros

If you are lucky, you can pick up a few classes to tutor online. There are too many tutors for the demand so making any meaningful income is unrealistic.

Cons

This company is poorly organized and very poorly run. When I started with them, they had more tutoring opportunities than tutors. They would call on the phone regularly to beg me to take more classes. At that time, I routinely made $400-$600 per week. Now, I'm lucky to make $30-$40 per week. That isn't even the biggest issue. I initially gave Tutorgigs plenty of grace because startups in this industry are notoriously troublesome, however, they have done nothing to justify my generosity. Here are some huge concerns: (1) Policies change arbitrarily and regularly. (2) Lesson plans are riddled with math and grammar errors. Some appear to be taken from other websites and are not always level-appropriate to the grade of the students. (3) Pay is not paid on time (as of this writing, my last paycheck is 6 days late). (4) Response time from the company is slow. (5) The official Facebook page, where most information is disseminated, deletes complaints and concerns from teachers rather than actually addressing them or fixing systemic issues. (6) To qualify to teach, you must pay for your own background check and fingerprinting through a specific company (Identigo) that is not conveniently located - this can amount to $100 to $200 in expenses plus travel time and lost work hours. (7) Pay was cut significantly this year, from $20 per session to a prorated $10 per hour. Some sessions are 10 minutes long and for your time, you are compensated $3.33. TL:DR - Avoid this gig. It is an unmitigated disaster.
