Pros

It is a job that allows you a full scope of care which I appreciated allowing you to be close with the kids in a setting where you really learn about mental illness/behavior patterns/ etc. It was a well run program. They seemed to truly care about the kids and it provided me with life experience/learning/lessons/relationships that I will carry with me forever.

Cons

Hard work/life balance. Seemed split between two worlds, world at home and world at work. Extreme amounts of responsibility, which can be positive but you must be up for the task.

Pros

As a guide, there was a fun group of other guides to get to know and the participants were all amazing.

Cons

Unsupportive supervisors and clinicians to an extreme. Participants out in the field for months at a time getting super sick, getting concussions, dealing with active SI all after being forced to come to this program and trudge through all types of weather to set up camp each night and dig latrines that fit the strict measurement requirements the program expects. These things would happen without other staff coming out to check on the participants or the two field guides working with participants during the length of the eight day shift. Counselors met up with us once a week.
