Pros

You get to work with really smart people. Benefits are fantastic and the company really supports charities.

Cons

Your time at TripAdvisor really depends upon which department you are in, we are continuously told that we are an engineering and product company which doesn’t do much for morale if you’re not in one of those teams. Employees who joined the company a few years back are being left behind when it comes to salary increases and career development. We talk a lot about risk taking, but this doesn’t really apply when it comes to recruitment as senior roles are often open a long time and employees take advantage of the situation.

I agree—TripAdvisor is filled with smart people---and not just in engineering and product management. While Product and Engineering are important for our success, there’s so many other teams that are equally vital, especially as we continue to grow globally. I do, however, have to disagree with you on one point: We continue to believe that we ARE a small company that just happens to have a lot of people. The majority of people at TripAdvisor don’t want to work at a big company that moves slowly-- we need to continue to challenge ourselves to optimize and not be complacent. And, our success depends on us continuing to find ways to move fast and innovate quickly, in order to maintain our competitive edge as we continue to grow.

Pros

The pace and work/ life balance are very manageable and they are still pro remote work which is a huge benefit as a lot of companies push return to office. The benefits and salaries are great compared to the industry standards.

Cons

Lots of turmoil, changeover, layoffs and chaos caused by a recent re-org. ELT does not have vision or innovation outside of “AI” and it’s hard to feel confident about the long term success of the company. Lots of white men who lack creativity.
