Come here if you love being micromanaged. - Lecturer Temasek Polytechnic Employee Review

Pros

Remuneration is alright. There is work-life balance to some extend if you consciously avoid having work encroaching into time outside of office and avoid getting into middle management.

Cons

Senior management (especially at the school level) loves to micromanage. School directors and their deputies appear to have nothing better to do but patrolling staff offices for tidiness, while everyone else, including middle management, have so much on their plates that they have to work into the middle of the night. Senior management is also detached from the core business at the school - if management are not getting satisfactory results in teaching effectiveness surveys, how can they lead by example?

Pros

Stable and comfortable for most people Nice campus, working environment - just next to the scenic Bedok Reservoir Predictable workload - given almost everything runs based on the yearly academic calendar Work-Life Balance (depends on who your boss is, and which department you work in)

Cons

Very centralized decision making, usually based on the Principal. I believe the new Principal has a more autonomous approach so things could be better now (since mid 2016). Unexciting - tends to take the "safe" or "proven" route (follow what we did before-approach) "Do-things-right" over the "Do-the-right-thing" culture Progression and promotions are non-existent for most, and slow for others (even the hi-po talent takes forever to get to something like Section Head or Manager)
