Pros

1) There are very good oppty's becoz of the size of the company. 2) Varied skills can be developed becoz of the breadth of the services TCS offers. 3) Very good brand name becoz of TATA group association 4) Exposure to different cultures etc becoz of Projects all across the globe. Employees get lot of onsite oppurtunities.

Cons

1) Extremely Bureaucratic in nature 2) Non-transparent senior management 3) Extremely weak and incompetent senior management and leadership. Ex: Recent handling of re-org and disastrous effect it has had on our Q4 2007-08 and Q1 2008-09 4) No concept of knowledge and competency development, post ILP ( Initial Learning Program) 5) Integration of lateral hires in middle mgmt and senior mgmt grade is extremely weak 6)Decision making finally is done by one person making a mockery of internal governance structure and questioning the competency of all managers. 7) Non-Existent HR - No room for conflict mgmt

Pros

Large client base. Talented people, have "cracked the code" on offshoring development and support.

Cons

For anyone used to working in US-based firms, the culture and politics will be difficult to understand and navigate. Internal policies and systems focus on the offshore delivery center model. Roles in the US do not fit into that mold, and obtaining approvals for simple expenses can require weeks and insanely high approval chains given the size of TCS. I needed approval from a global division head (a CEO direct-report) just to pay for a short training course. Missions of different departments are not clearly defined, so overlap and conflict are common.
