Underpaid. I'd be better off working at the mall. - Teacher Sylvan Learning Centers Employee Review

Pros

Dedicated teachers (or maybe desperate for income) Flexible hours It's not difficult work if you know how to push buttons and read. I don't have to prepare food or take out the trash or deal with the general public. I'm not "unemployed."

Cons

Low pay - I get less than 10% of the money the students' families pay for the services. I have to "teach" at least 3 students at a time. Each of the students are different grade levels and subjects. My job is to start up the computer based lessons for each student and then grade them when they are done. The center management is inept - they change my hours after I arrive without consulting me, don't know anything about what I'm supposed to do, and pretty much never spoke to me after I was hired except to tell me I wasn't doing something that they never told me to do. The training isn't helpful since this center didn't follow most of the corporate policies.

Pros

I enjoyed the work I did do. Working with the children and helping with teachers was fun and I got to socialize quite often with staff and students.

Cons

I was fired for missing one shift because my mother ended up in an accident. I did not get to explain myself for missing said shift and was told to think about my actions for 4 days before being let go. Extremely unprofessional.
