Pros
I have met several nice folks/fellow road warriors, that unfortunately fell for the same pitch from the recruiters as I did. The training program itself was pretty in depth, and I felt as if I learned all the necessary skills needed to become a safe and detail oriented driver. My mentor was very easy to get along with, and gave me the opportunity to get all of my drive hours in as quickly as possible, so I could hit the road as a solo driver in a short period of time.
Cons
There are too many to list, and I am sure to miss some, but I am going to try and be as detailed as possible. It begins with the recruiters (and yes, I do realize it is their job to make Swift look like a great place to work), but they flat out lie, about everything. I was told that I would be making $300-500/wk. during training, my first check was a whopping $98. I was told that I would average 2500-2900 miles weekly, as a solo driver...I am lucky to get 1,500 @.33/mile, that's a whole $495/wk before taxes and "benefits" are taken out. If your truck breaks down, and you are unable to work go out and buy an industrial sized jar of Vaseline and be prepared to take it up the rear...because you will have to fight tooth and nail to get your meager $50.00 a day that is promised, and forget about getting a loaner! As for the administrative staff, they suck...forget about getting in touch with anyone, ever! Forget about being organized and prepared on any level, and actually expecting anyone in the office to be remotely competent. This is by far the worst company that I have ever worked for, and I can't wait until my 1 year contractual obligation to them is over. That being said, if you are looking to lose everything you own, or maybe screw over your family/kids/baby momma, or you are just enjoy being screwed over repeatedly without mercy, then I would highly suggest that you apply with Swift they will make your dreams come true!
