Pros
I have a very good Driver manager. Company lets me bobtail truck home. You can be over a hundred miles out and they will bring you in for home time. If you got an empty trailer in tow you'll get paid to bring it back to the terminal. In return they will expect certain things done without pay. It's a fair swap. They will allow numurous mistakes as far as wrong turns, running late etc. Just don't hit anything. You can be lost for an hour and will not be contacted or brothered. Can smoke in the truck.
Cons
They are always cheating you on miles, who isn't. Here's the thing I found out. They will let you go 50 miles in any direction without a dispatch after completeing one without another one on you. Those miles get taken away from your next run. Now all but more than if you were just able to stay put where you were when you finished your last run. Some night and weekend dispatchers are very rude and ignorant to talk to or ask a question. Watch your hours for they will force the issue to put you past your 11/14 rules to make a stop and if you don't comply you'll find yourself sitting for longer spells between runs. If you have finished a run and have five and a half hours left they will not use them. You'll get dispatched for the next day sometime. Scanned paperwork keeps getting lost and has to be rescanned or your put on safety hold.
