Pros

Trying to support people and make a difference in their lives.

Cons

Management has some far out thinking and likes to push their personal views on the staff. They claim to be about helping students but say derogatory things about them. They want you to be independent but don't give you enough ability to make decisions then when you try you are wrong. Not valued for all you do. Scattered thinking, lack of support and no accountability. It's sad that the students really think they are going to better themselves. Teachers do not have qualifications for career subjects but "forced" to teach the outdated programs. No follow through. Way too much turnover for a company in business so long. Does not value the employees who really care. So sad. 😢

Pros

As a recent University Graduate from McMaster University, I was extremely happy to have received an offer of employment from Summit College. Summit College helped me learn more about office administration and student admissions, human resources roles (including, recruiting, hiring, training, screening, and so on). I am very thankful for my time at Summit as I learned a lot and the experience lead me to a new career at McMaster University. Since Summit was taken over by new management in 2015 the company has significantly improved. The company has been working on re-branding as well as re-establishing as an educational institution. Prior to the change in management, the company was not a good place to work. The new management and GM that took over had a big focus on personal and professional development of employees and valued lifelong learning. Overall, Summit is a really good place to work if you are just starting out in your career. The pay is fairly decent for someone fresh out of University or College and it is a solid, small, team environment to be a part of.

Cons

When enrollment isn't extremely demanding or hiring new employees is not a huge priority, there can be a lack of jobs to complete. For the most part, management is good at assigning special projects during slow weeks but there were times where I felt that I wasn't being challenged.
