World changing work - Senior Vice President Spitfire Strategies Employee Review

Pros

I was able to work with fascinating and powerful clients around the world on front page issues as well as long term change efforts. We developed smart strategic and creative work for trainings, campaigns, policy and narrative change. The fellow staff are brilliant, caring, funny, deep and some of the best people I have known and worked with.

Cons

Consulting for multiple clients on diverse issues means you are carrying a lot of schedules, deliverables and pressures at all times. It is hard to unplug though you are encouraged to do so. It is hard to find a way to balance client work responsibilities, work for the firm and new business work - these all get done but it is a constant challenge to bring your best to all of these.

Pros

Spitfire is absolutely a comms bootcamp. You get to jump into real work right away, and will learn a ton both in terms of working on any and all social justice issues, and all types of communication strategies. Managers are really invested in letting you learn new skills and care about your wellbeing. Staff get a managers that they meet with each week, and they are in charge of cultivating your feedback and recommending you for promotion, so you have an advocate looking out for you and giving you advice. Teams are ready and willing to step in and support people when they're having family, health, or personal issues. Spitfire clients are doing incredible work, so even when a client is difficult to work with (which doesn't happen super ofter), it helps to be in agreement with their overall cause/mission.

Cons

Spitfire is absolutely a comms bootcamp. You will work really hard, and the work moves quickly. Spitfire is challenging for people who aren't good at asking follow up questions about assignments or struggle with prioritizing a ton of different tasks/clients.
