Pros

Junior level management is pretty good and actually cares about the employees (they're just powerless to make any real changes). Office space is pretty well designed and "hip" 1 hour lunch breaks Company gives 10% of its profits to overseas foundation

Cons

The compensation for the work that you're doing is incredibly poor. Pay increase when you're promoted to management is pretty laughable. Southtree takes advantage of their employees like no other company I've ever seen. Employees are often asked to switch roles and departments to the point where you don't really know what you'll be doing when you walk into work. Though this company has many full time employees, they offer absolutely no insurance benefits. No 401K, no retirement, no health, dental, or vision insurance, no paid time off. Absolutely nothing. When I commented about this, the indirect response I was given is that, "Well, we're a start-up, so it's hard." Not a good enough answer, if you ask me. However, some of the benefits that Southtree claims to grant employees include the "microwave and refrigerator." The office culture is dismal. Just about everyone there is looking for other work and talks about how miserable they are. Senior management has gotten to be pretty disengaged with the actual work their company does, which I imagine wasn't always the case. I've never known a company to discourage its employees from asking questions, but Southtree does exactly this. If you ask a question that management thinks you should already have the answer for, you will be chastised and critiqued for your lack of "critical thinking" skills. However, if you make a mistake or are having a hard time with a situation, you're "always encouraged to come talk to us about it!" Sound confusing? It is. Honestly, I would advise folks to stay away from this company until they figure out what they're doing. There's potential for it to be a decent place to work, but not until some serious changes are made in how Southtree treats their employees on several levels.

Pros

The pay was good, the people were friendly. And I learned a lot. Music. Coffee.

Cons

Angry people you have to talk to and they can be pretty nasty.

Pros

A job if you need something temporary Unlimited Coffee Some coworkers made the experience bearable

Cons

No Growth Opportunities – If you’re looking for a long-term career, this is not the place. Advancement was rare, and professional development was not a priority. Lack of Respect & Accountability – Customer items were sometimes lost with little regard, and employees had to deal with the aftermath with little support. Disconnected Management – Upper management felt like a clique, keeping themselves physically and professionally separate from the rest of the employees. Company Culture Misrepresentation – While it marketed itself as a modern startup, it lacked innovation, fair policies, and genuine leadership. Not Family-Friendly – Policies, at least at the time, were not supportive of employees with children or personal obligations.
