Pros

Great product set; customers want to talk.

Cons

This is not a senior sales culture. Do not fall for job postings that state they are looking for senior sales talent. This is essentially an inside sales culture within a company that is so dependent on retention (renewals) that the revenue lines remain somewhat flat because of a lack of strategic vision. Furthermore, there are too many cooks in the kitchen, as the renewal reps often sniff around in your territory and end up driving sales activity outside of your control. The renewal reps are not strategic enough to see larger opportunities beyond gaining that renewal contract. Also, the company is so paralyzed by their SalesForce CRM dependency that management is only sitting in their offices counting opps and reading updates without getting involved enough with their sale staff. They are puppets of the execs. The sales reps are so locked into their computers because of the requirements to constantly update notes that there is virtually no chance to get out and cultivate new opportunities. Last but not least, there is an ethics problem at SolarWinds. Deals are easily manipulated by channel and renewals. If you aren't part of the "cool kids," management will easily find a way for a sales opportunity to end up with someone else. I have proof of unethical things and have pursued action with an attorney and the Department of Labor. This is a company with paralysis of analysis! Stay away.

Thank you for sharing your experience at SolarWinds. We value your feedback and take all concerns seriously. SolarWinds is not an entry-level sales organization, and hires candidates based on attitude, commitment, and competence. Within the last few years, SolarWinds has transitioned to a subscription-based sales model. This approach requires collaboration between our Sales and Renewals teams. We do not condone favoritism or unethical practices.

Pros

Amazing office space in Charlotte with a strong emphasis on work-life balance. There are plenty of social events and networking opportunities that help employees stay engaged and build relationships across different business units. The recent IT reorganization has created a unique opportunity to participate in system and process design initiatives. While this level of change and transformation may not appeal to everyone, it offers valuable experience for those who enjoy shaping new processes and driving organizational improvements. I am optimistic about the direction of the organization and confident in the vision and leadership of the new IT management team.

Cons

Career advancement opportunities can sometimes feel limited within a satellite office environment, and promotion paths are not always clearly defined. Employees seeking long-term growth may benefit from having proactive career development conversations with leadership. The recent IT reorganization has introduced a period of transition, resulting in some uncertainty and lower morale across parts of the organization. The department is currently in a rebuilding phase, and new employees should expect to contribute to the implementation of new processes, systems, and ways of working. Compensation appears to be somewhat below market rates for certain roles, which may be a consideration for candidates prioritizing salary growth.
