Pros
A great place to break into software sales, and to gain experience with a very highly effective light-touch sales model. The company has a very strong operational focus and everyone from the top down is watching for measurable, daily progress against goals.
Cons
The operational focus translates to short-term thinking about everything. There are few opportunities for advancement as it seems most senior hires are made outside the company. If you aren't part of the CEO's inner cabal you'll basically be told as little information as possible and sent on your way to do your job. The mid-senior levels of management are mostly battlefield promoted and mediocre, as the better ones left as soon as they could cash out after the IPO. So there's tons of intrigue. It is a shame that for being such a profitable business, the senior management has invested so little in its employees, their development, and creating a place people are actually proud to work at. Also, I would not consider any position in the marketing organization as it has been a revolving door for years and years now. Profitability and healthy culture are not mutually exclusive (see Google, or LinkedIn, or other highly rated, fast growing and profitable companies), but Solarwinds doesn't understand that concept.
