Thanks for providing this feedback. Any terminations we've made in the past have been for only two reasons: performance-related or due to our financial situation at the time.
During the early stages of COVID-19, we saw a dramatic increase in cancellations from our merchants in the weeks that followed worldwide lockdowns as businesses struggled. This lead to us making the tough decision to let some of our staff go. This wasn't a decision that was taken lightly, but we ensured that everybody who left Smile had a fair package, and was supported. In the months that have followed, we saw an increase in eCommerce volume, and a corresponding increase in our sales. The only hires that joined our team during this phase or just before it were people who were signed and committed to Smile before COVID-19 accelerated. We're still being very cautious, and have not resumed normal hiring by any means.
I'd really like you to be part of a transparent culture at Smile, including how we make decisions around people, roadmap, and everything in between. Please chat with me any time, or submit an anonymous message to me in our OfficeVibe Slackbot and we can chat there.
