Pros
They start you off above minimum wage. The store closes at 8:30pm. They'll work with you on the schedule...I had a set schedule 4pm to 8:30pm.
Cons
My manager was a real piece of work ! Good intentions but will cut you off once she feels irritated with you ! She hired me on 12/20/16 as an accounting associate in the cash office . I never did accounting before. She saw that I had teller experience and recommended me for that position. Then once I started training for the position , she rushes me to learn everything in a short period of time...and I was getting there and learning but I needed at least 3 more weeks of training to feel confident in the position . So instead of putting myself through the stress, I asked her if she can transfer me downstairs as a cashier. So my pay went from $12 to $10.80. Little did I know that I wasn't just a cashier now. I also had to work in a BORING member host position and a door greeter. As if standing on your feet for hours on hard concrete wasn't painful enough .....then the COS want you to stand at the self checkout area like a zombie even if you have no members. If there isn't anything to do or no members at the self checkout , I like to stay busy and zone HBA, or I'd change the trash bag in the area. But COS act like it's a crime and are over me like a Im a child . I have never been so bored in my life. Plus the registers, especially the self checkout) are ALWAYS breaking down. Hand scanners stop working and screen freezes. Once, I asked a manager if it was possible for me to have a till on the register closes to the self checkout so that I can checkout members who want to pay with cash and to keep busy and she said it was a no go. When your on a register or in the cashier position period, you have to ask permission to go to the restroom and then sometimes the COS will tell you to wait or hurry up. They don't give you your break on time. On 12/11/17, I clocked in at 4pm like I always do and I leave everyday at 8:30pm. I did not get my 15 minute break until 7:38pm . I stood their starving and getting light headed from not eating since 12:30pm. Once I got back from my break, my stomach still hurt since I took to long to eat....plus I had a headache. Then a rude member came to my line with a shopping cart stacked high of merchandise and got mad when I asked him to unload his cart.....started slamming cases of Gatorade and water on the register . I had had enough for the day and I walked off my register 25 minutes before my shift ended. Clocked out and went home. Was off the next day(Sunday) and I came back to work in Monday . Walked right pass my manager , walked upstairs and clocked in . Was told to get a till , walked in the office to get my cash out of the automated machine they recently got and then she told a COS to tell me to go on register 5. About 45 minutes into my shift , I gave her my 2 week notice because I didn't feel I was a valued employee and she immediately closed down my register. She called me into the office and she said what I did that Friday was unacceptable and that I didn't even turn in my cash. She terminated my employment right then saying that I didn't do things in the right way. If I was truly fired , she could have called me on the phone on Sunday or even early Monday. I didn't have to work until 4pm. She could have even stopped me before I went upstairs to clock in and not have me get a till and start working. I have learned that Sam's really do not care about their employees. To them , your just a number(referring to how many members you upgrade or do a credit app on)and will reward you with a doggy bag with a jello cup, cheetwos , cookies and a chocolate when you upgrade X amount of members. Even then, they will fire you no matter how hard you work .One minute , I feel happy and challenging myself with upgrades ,renewals, warranties and credit apps. . The next minute I'm miserable because of being stuck at self checkout and COS complain to me that they need me to stay standing at self checkout and not do anything else. Got fired 9 days before I can cash out my little PTO .
