Pros

Some good people working at Sage. Some flexibility in how we approach work.

Cons

The main problem is far too many senior managers including numerous Vice Presidents, EVPs, Global Directors, Directors and countless other senior managers. If you need something done, nobody knows who to approach, few of those managers will take any responsibility and the standard response to difficult questions is "ask your line manager" as if your line manager is empowered to answer. Too many people in non-engineering roles that simply aren't needed whilst technical staff are undervalued. HR have brought back rank and yank with the new appraisal scheme, there's an external recruitment freeze for 2024 and redundancies are constant pointing to things not being as positive as the share price indicates.

We are grateful to receive your feedback and sorry that your experience at Sage is not more positive. At the moment, we have been rolling out extensive all-company-wide leadership training courses to enhance the quality of support available to our colleagues as we embrace a culture more firmly rooted in high performance. This includes further empowering our management teams to take charge of leading their teams to extraordinary outcomes without having to rely heavily on the support from those above them. To your point on internal hiring, our decision to primarily focus on this was made in line with our commitment to developing our in-house talent first before looking externally. It is true though, that in some areas of the business, there is some ongoing restructuring and given how these undertakings affect hard-working and committed individuals, those decisions are not being taken lightly. However, in our case, they are not indicative of a misdirection either but rather the areas being reframed are simply to ensure they fit within the wider business context so that the whole company is strategically positioned to keep delivering on its promises to its stakeholders. We know we have room to improve and your feedback has been noted for us to keep doing so.

Pros

was hired as remote and get to have that honored, but have been openly told no career progression because of remote status. decent pay

Cons

Leadership instability: Seven manager changes during my relatively short tenure. Unrealistic targets: A sales quota set at 1,100% growth (not a typo). Slow product development: Getting anything actioned on the product side takes far too long. Product management turnover: Three product manager changes, resulting in no meaningful deliverables in over three years. Misaligned hiring priorities: Greater emphasis on DEI optics than on hiring people positioned to drive growth. Internal vs. customer focus: More energy spent on internal events than on product enhancements. Lack of accountability (the biggest issue): No one takes ownership. Responsibility gets passed around constantly — for example, client cancellations going unprocessed because they impact someone's numbers. Managers have openly encouraged pushing the work onto someone else rather than handling it.
