Pros

NOTE: This is strictly focused on The Points Guy (TPG) at Red Ventures. Rather than focusing on RV as a whole, which is very difficult to do since the company is so diverse, business and org wise, this speaks to TPG as a company within RV. - opportunity to work on an extremely exciting travel brand - thoughtful and hard working engineering team

Cons

- massive structural disorganization from a product, engineering and design standpoint leading to constant infighting and territorial behaviors - combo of engineering team being spread very thin and a very high level of technical debt (without biz investment to pay it off), leading to a constant need for "outage support”, resulting in to little work life balance for leadership and engineers - Engineering being forced to balance competing priorities from different teams that do not communicate with one another, and a product team that does not want to be involved nor triage order of said priorities - No roadmap definition nor pipeline, therefore every task is “urgent”, every deadline is “now” and every feature’s list of requirements has zero depth of functional requirements while also being extremely intricate from a business goal standpoint, resulting in complex feature sets that require constant rework based on “feel” or the whims of the biz team - Tech teams are an afterthought to The Points Guy, rarely recognized by leadership for their contributions and dedication - Very low pay compared to market - No support during times of burnout - No mentorship or training - Feedback goes nowhere; all above feedback was provided continuously with little to no impetus to change or acknowledgement
