No direction, no thought. - Software Engineer Rakuten Employee Review

Pros

Food, drink, community. The same everyone says. You get free food and drink and everyone is fun to be with but then everyone is in the same boat... The food and drink isn't a pull at this point since most tech companies do that.

Cons

- No clear business direction: Flip flopping from management. Killing products one minute, then changing their mind, then changing it again. They seem to be making it up on the spot and do not instill confidence in knowing what they are doing. - False economy: poor software infrastructure ethos. Will look into buzzword tech and then buy the cheapest off-brand available. Designed so poorly so that it breaks non-stop. You will be fighting fires non-stop. Don't even think about development environments. You will always be building software on quicksand. The flagship product is a copy/paste legacy code job. - Short staffing: account managers are worked to exhaustion in the hope that they will leave (as they try to phase out old products) and then the work is loaded onto the others with no relief.

Pros

Rakuten Rewards has great life balance. Too bad the economy was getting rocked.

Cons

Don't really have any cons. I understand that the market's been hard so had to downsize the force, so that was kinda challenging. Hopefully AI will increase everyone's output.
