Pros

Fantastic pay, great benefits, extreme job security, free parking pass or MARTA pass, very competent and knowledgeable management, quarterly breakfasts/lunches, learning opportunities and classes provided and paid for, regular raises and bonuses, soda and coffee provided, 401k matching plan, etc. This company genuinely is the complete package for an employee. RSUI utilizes flex time, meaning that you can choose to start your day anywhere from 7AM to 9AM. Work days are only 7.5 hours, totalling 37.5 hours a week. Employees are given an hour for lunch, and the company is generally very relaxed about employee monitoring (Disclaimer: Tthis could vary depending on your department, but I've never personally heard otherwise). If you're a good employee that takes care of your responsibilities, the company generally isn't going to keep tabs on you - long lunches and such generally go unnoticed. Same goes in regards to coming in a few minutes late, or leaving a few minutes early. Just take care of your work in a timely and efficient manner and don't abuse the company's leniency, and you'll find that it's a very relaxed environment to work in. There's no babysitting here, like in some offices. Rather than using a Sick Day / Vacation Day system, RSUI gives PTO (Paid Time Off). New employees start with 22 PTO days, plus 2 floating holidays. Basically, 22 days of PTO per year. Unused days can be carried over to the next year, adding up to a maximum of 50 days. The company is extremely accomodating regarding PTO requests - I've never heard of one being denied. Very little notice is required...putting in the request the day before is just fine. If you wake up sick and have to call in, it's not an issue. RSUI's view basically is this: PTO days are considered the employees time, and it's theirs to use. Addition, RSUI is also slowly incorporating working from home. Many professionals at the company already get to work from home one day a week, and the goal is to move up to two. Please note that this only applies to exempt (salary) employees right now. Non-exempt (hourly) employees do not yet have this luxury, but it's to be expected that some accomodation will be made down the road. At least that's what I'm hoping. :) Pay is also quite good. Mail room start's in the high twenty-thousands. Entry level assistants tend to start around $32-35 thousand. 3% yearly raises are the standard, although slightly higher could be earned depending on performance. Bonuses of 10% of the employees salary are also standard. Advancement is available for excellent employees. A person could start off entry level, and within 5 years or so have a job that's paying them $40,000-$50,000. No special education is required. Please note, though, that this generally only happens for excellent employees. Average employees will still get yearly raises and bonuses, but they can't count on leaping promotions. More and more of the company is progressing towards being paperless. Because of this, being computer savvy is helpful. You don't have to be a computer genius, but knowing your way around a PC will be a boon.

Cons

Praise and commendation can sometimes be lacking - when reviews come around, you can rest assured you'll be rewarded financially, but if you're someone who feeds off of verbal and written commendation, you may find this area lacking. Outside of review time, you shouldn't really count on receiving any praise or feedback as to your performance. Additionally, while the phenomenal job security at RSUI is a benefit, it can also be a frustration for employees that excel. RSUI is so hesitant to lay employees off, that often times poor work performances will be tolerated for up to two years before the negligent employee will finally be terminated. If you're an excellent worker, this can sometimes be frustrating since it may seem that this sub-par worker is not being reprimanded, while your excellent efforts go under-appreciated. In the end, RSUI pretty much always handles things correctly, it can just take a while and requires patience. Those are really the only drawbacks to the company. RSUI treats their employees extremely well, and they work hard to have a successful, progressive company.

Pros

Great pay, rich benefits, generous matching gift program and good PTO bank.

Cons

I worked at RSUI in the HR department, and while there were learning opportunities, the experience was overshadowed by several systemic issues. The work-life balance was non-existent, with unrealistic expectations and a culture of overwork. There were some internal department policies that were verbal rather than written, leading to confusion, inconsistencies, and a lack of trust in management. HR Management practices were problematic. Micromanagement led to bottlenecks and delays, which were then attributed to employees. Socializing with coworkers, even outside of work, was discouraged, undermining morale and team cohesion. Additionally, HR management’s tendency to take things personally created a tense environment where employees were reluctant to share concerns. Company policies were inconsistently applied by HR, with exceptions often made based on personal opinions of employees. Several employees, including myself, experienced dismissive behavior and, at times, bullying from management. This behavior created a hostile work environment and made it difficult to maintain a healthy level of professional engagement. Internal communications were occasionally emotionally charged, further adding to an already stressful atmosphere.
