Pros
This is a great job for those of you who don't have a college education. If you have a college education, or great work experience with other organizations, you can find something better. Plus, they will hire anyone, so those 4 years you spent in college feels like a complete waste. Why can they hire anyone? Because it's ALL SCRIPTED. The recruiter, the Business Development Reps aka door-to-door sales, and Remodeling Consultant... it's all a script. So, if you're very good at lying, and don't care about integrity... you'll succeed!
Cons
The problem is that the Business Development Rep (BDR) is creating/pushing appointments by knocking on doors (even if the customers don't need the products) and telling home owners that the price is guaranteed for the future, and that the work is not for now, but for down the road. This creates a disconnect between the BDRs and the Remodeling Consultants because the Remodeling Consultant is only able to earn a commission if they close on the same day. So, if leads are generated by promising a price for the future, it creates a problem for the Remodeling Consultants because the price is guaranteed for a year. So, if any smart homeowner says, "Hey let me think about it" and decides to move forward the next day, the Remodeling Consultant get's NOTHING, even if you spend 3-4 hours demoing a product. The company will tell you that they give you every tool to close that day, but most homeowners who are looking to spend +$10K on a project is not going to sign a contract that day. Plus, if your'e the customer - doesn't it feel shady if a sales person is pushing you to sign today? A customer will do research, call other companies, get a quote, and compare, and talk it over with other decision makers in private before signing. Just think about it: Someone who buys a home does research about the neighborhood, school district, property tax and compare it to other neighborhoods before buying their largest investment aka their home. If you peel back the onion, the business model is designed so that the revenue goes straight to the top because any rational home owner won't sign that day and will sign in the future. Also you work Saturdays!
