Pros

The non-compete agreement is completely worthless, because enough employees have left and gone to customer sites.

Cons

Unless you come into the company with a veteran employee as your best friend, you will get the worst of the contracts assigned to you. So they hired you as a top notch programmer... do you like to spend your time reviewing or writing requirements and tests? Because you won't be programming, they actually have vary few contracts for new programming. New skills? Well there is no training provided by the company except what you could learn on your own going through webinars. Linux? Laughable much of their contracts require ADA. Bone up on your python because that is the only skill really needed at this company. Veterans love the place, why wouldn't they. They get their pick of the best contracts and can determine who works with them. The poor saps being recently hired get whatever slop is handed to them.

Performance Software Response

Thank you for the feedback. We are very sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your experience at Performance Software. We never want to give special treatment to people who don’t deserve it just because they’re friends with a senior employee. Our goal is to make all management decisions based on performance, not politics. Although we do try to give our inexperienced engineers plenty of opportunities, we cannot always promise that every engineer will always get exactly what he or she wants to do every project. We value all of our employees, new and old, and try our best to keep them feeling happy and fulfilled while keeping the quality of work at 100%. We have not, and do not, fire employees if we lose a contract. We do end up letting people go based on performance and cultural fit. It is good to see that you don’t feel too restricted by our employment agreements. The non-compete clauses are never intended to prevent our employees from getting jobs in their chosen profession. We enjoy seeing our employees grow and succeed. The non-compete clauses are intended to protect PSW from employees that leave to work directly for our competitors or work directly for those clients with which we have an established relationship. Secondly, it protects from the misappropriation of trade secrets. The benefit of having thorough non-competes in place is that it creates an environment where management feels comfortable sharing business details with the employees and encourages open and honest communication. Both situations, unfair competition and misappropriation of trade secrets, hurt our business and the employees that remain at PSW. Protecting against those situations is something the courts have consistently found enforceable. We welcome fair competition because we believe we are the best at what we do. We protect ourselves from those that participate in unfair competition. Thanks again for providing your feedback and we will try harder to address your concerns.
