Pros

Pearson does a good job of recognizing talent and promoting from within. Having a degree in English or publishing experience prior to coming is good, but a lack thereof does not hinder growth. On the job and formal training is well organized. The people at Pearson are incredibly talented and hard working.

Cons

It is a challenge to balance work/life when working at a high-stress type of job. Pearson is no exception to this--a cyclical industry like college publishing requires travel and long hours during peak season, and what used to be the "off" season does not exist anymore. Still there are perks to make up for it, and I would highly recommend it as a great place to work.

Pros

When a project goes according to plan you can work with some great people and make decent money.

Cons

Bad behavior is tolerated when you have a weak team member. They are allowed to remain on payroll, even if they do not effectively contribute. The burden is often placed on the team members willing to pick up the slack. Promotions are not given to the most qualified. They are randomly assigned. There are some horrible scoring directors as a result.
