Pros
they offer money ... only after making you go through a 10hr "training day/2nd interview" WITH NO COMPENSATION, knocking on other people's doors until 9pm trying to convince them that the government will give them money if they buy a new furnace
Cons
Save your valuable time. I have just returned from an incredibly fruitless training shift, a period during which the following happened: • I arrived at the office and sat amongst two of my fellow trainees: a high school student and a graduate of culinary school, the latter of whom was a recent graduate but of a field of study unrelated to the job. This company sends its employees door to door to pitch HVAC equipment, not to serve chateaubriand for two. Not one of us has an academic background in HVAC. I went to school for television broadcasting and specialized in digital marketing. • The woman who interviewed me turns twenty next week, an age at which postsecondary completion is implausible. This was a hypocritical twist, as the job called for recent graduates and she was no further in her education than the high school student seated beside me. • We were introduced briefly to two sales directors before they drove us fifty kilometers to Whitby where we were taken door-to-door to sell HVAC equipment to young couples and the elderly. I was shocked at the abrasive behaviour of the sales wizards training us. They routinely forced their ways into houses and kept ledgers of houses to harass. We weren’t told we would be travelling. We weren’t told what time we would be returning to headquarters; we weren’t told we would be leaving headquarters. We weren’t even told the specifics of the job. I asked, she was forcefully ambiguous. • After a few hours, I was told we would be leaving at 9pm. At this point, it was shortly after 4pm; I left. Being stranded until my trainers deemed it was time to return to Toronto, I was forced to find a taxi to take me to a GO station and make my way back to the city. Do not, under any circumstances, waste your time and resources on this company. You will be hired strictly to travel door-to-door hocking furnaces. There is no base salary, you will be reliant solely upon commission. During the three hours I spent infield, the company’s sales directors couldn’t manage a single sale. This is a dishonest job posting.
